Everett Lylon Butcher Sr.
August 17, 1925 - September 7, 2020
Everett Lylon Butcher, Sr., 95, of Chester, VA transitioned on Monday, September 7th, 2020.
Everett was born August 17th, 1925, to the late Norris Butcher, Sr. and Ida May Dorsey Butcher, in West Chester, Pennsylvania. He attended Kennett High School. Timmy entered the United States Army in 1949, serving two years.
Everett was united in marriage to Alice Marie Kelley on September 10th, 1955. To their union, they had six children, Kathryn Senecca Michelle, Everett Jr., Eric, Tanyka, Thomas, and Jaklyn.
Everett was a servant in and outside the church. Employed at the VA Hospital in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, he served faithfully for over 30 years. His days working for the funeral home began at Day Funeral Home in West Chester, PA. He would eventually begin working at DeBaptiste Funeral Home where he lovingly and faithfully served until he retired. Even after retirement, Mr. Butcher, as the staff lovingly called him, would pop up to say hello, and to see what was going on!
Everett’s spiritual journey began during his childhood at New Garden U.A.M.E. Church in Kennett Square. He was baptized and received the Holy Ghost at Highway Gospel Mission, under the pastorate of the late Elder John Reed. He was a charter member of Christ Temple Church in Kennett Square, PA, under the pastorate of District Elder Y.W. Archibald.
Everett had a love for God and walked faithfully with HIM. At Christ Temple Church (presently Greater Works Ministries), he served on the deacon and trustee board, sang in the Inspirational Gospel Choir as well as the Men’s Choir, and also drove the church van. Every Sunday, Deacon Butcher could be found sitting on the back row of the sanctuary with Deacon Robert Anderson.
Before relocating to Chester, Virginia, Everett, along with his wife Alice, was a faithful member of Redeeming Grace Ministries, under the pastorate of Bishop Marvin C. Reeves.
To many Everett was “Uncle Timmy.” He was a man of quiet strength, dedicated to God, family and his work. His love of God and life was witnessed in all he did. Assisting family and friends with rides to work, mentoring deacons and funeral home staff, and showing others through deed not just word, what it meant to be a husband, father and Man of God, is how he lived.
He loved taking and showing pictures, telling stories and jokes, and eating sweets. It was a joy to hear the stories and jokes; the highlight was watching him laugh so hard tears would stream down his face and it became hard to understand what he was saying. That made him laugh even more!
Uncle Timmy was also well known for his fudge and large pancakes.
Everett was preceded in death by the love of his life Alice, his daughter Kathryn Senecca Michelle Hoerl, brothers Bancroft, Norris and Carl Butcher, his sister Edith Butcher Norton, Shelly and Anjanette Marie “Angel” Kellum, beloved foster children.
Everett leaves to cherish his memory five children: Everett Butcher, Jr. (Sharon); Eric L. Butcher, Sr., Tanyka Abbott (Daric), Thomas Butcher, and Jaklyn Butcher; sisters-in-law Lottie Anne Kelley-Brown and Eula Christmas, brother-in-law Christopher George Kelley, Son-in-law Roger Hoerl (Senecca), 13 grandchildren: Erin Hoerl-Leone, (Mark); Jordan Hoerl (Cair); Calysha Butcher, Maurice Butcher, Eric Butcher, Sr., Sofia Butcher, Elon Butcher, Cheyenne Gilbert, Dominique, Janeka, Xaaviar, Manny; three great-grandchildren; Henley Hoerl, Eden Hoerl, and Sena Hoerl; the children he and Alice raised as their own, Rosemary King, Beverly Markel and Charlene “Charlie” Kellum-Jackson; four God-children, Janie Cruz, Dantae Reeves, Jesse Walker, Jr., and Brandi Brison, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
